Dr Steven Kent – Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Surgeon

Dr Steven Kent is an orthopaedic surgeon with subspecialty expertise in foot and ankle surgery, with a particular focus on sports injuries, syndesmosis reconstruction, and ankle replacement. He is based in Newcastle and provides care to patients throughout the Hunter, Lake Macquarie, and surrounding regions.

After completing orthopaedic training in Newcastle through the Australian Orthopaedic Association program, Dr Kent was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2019. He undertook a dedicated Foot and Ankle Fellowship at the Mater Hospital in Brisbane, followed by a prestigious fellowship in Toronto, Canada at St Michael’s Hospital, focusing on trauma, arthroplasty, and lower limb reconstruction.

Dr Kent’s practice emphasises the management of acute and complex foot and ankle injuries, including syndesmotic injuries, ankle instability, Achilles tendon ruptures, cartilage injuries, and ankle replacement. He has extensive experience treating athletes from high-level sporting teams, including the Newcastle Knights, and was recently one of the on-call orthopaedic surgeons for the Wallabies vs Fiji Test match. His post-operative protocols prioritise early mobilisation and accelerated recovery to support athletes in returning to sport as safely and efficiently as possible.

Beyond his clinical work, Dr Kent is actively engaged in research into syndesmosis surgery and patient-reported outcomes in sports injury populations. He serves as a reviewer for international orthopaedic journals and regularly teaches GPs, physiotherapists, and medical trainees.

Dr Kent combines advanced surgical training with a collaborative, patient-centred approach, tailoring treatment to the goals and activity demands of each individual patient.
