Dr Mac Nixon

Dr Mac Nixon is an Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in disorders of the hip and knee.

Mac provides comprehensive assessment, not just looking at the injury itself but considering the patients’ daily activities, lifestyle, personal goals and social support network. He combines this with advanced surgical management techniques including “Enhanced Recovery After Surgery” which leads to faster recovery, less pain and earlier discharge from hospital.

After completing a Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at James Cook University, Queensland, he undertook general Orthopaedic Training through the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) in Newcastle. To enhance his expertise in his area of interest, Mac undertook additional training, completing two subspecialty fellowships. St John of God, Lower Limb Arthroplasty and Reconstruction Fellowship in Perth, Western Australia. Followed by the Orthopaedic Research Institute of Queensland, Lower Limb Arthroplasty and Reconstruction Fellowship, In Townsville, Queensland. Prior to relocating back to the Hunter Valley.

The possibility of undergoing surgery can be daunting and is often a vulnerable time for patients and their families. Mac is extremely personable, caring and thorough in every aspect of the illness trajectory from the moment he meets patients, through to surgery and follow up.

Mac enjoys spending time with his young family, he is particularly happy at the beach and cheering on the kids at soccer.
